ENUGU – Some politicians previously of the Peoples Democratic Party in Enugu State have joined the All Progressives Congress, boasting of their capability of sweeping all the elective positions from councillorship to governorship in the state in 2019, not because they have anything extraordinary to offer Enugu people but because they belong to the President’s party who they are confident will unleash the federal might in the form of the police, the army and INEC to rig them into power.
Members of this gang who recently gathered at Agbani in Nkanu West local government area of the state have clearly hijacked their new party from people like Barrister Okey Ezea, the party’s former governorship aspirant, and other members of the party who have been with it since formation days.
In this gang are Secretary to the government of Chimaroke Nnamani, Onyemuche Nnamani, former Speaker of Enugu House of Assembly and governorship aspirant under the PDP in 2015, Eugene Odo, and Dilibe Onyeama, a political suckling who also is the elder brother of Foreign Affairs minister, Geoffrey Onyeama.
Others are Gbazuagu Nweke Gbazuagu, Gabriel Onoh, and Kate Nnamani, an adviser to former Governor Sullivan Chime. This gang is headed by former Senate President Ken Nnamani, who decamped to the APC few weeks ago and have since been crowned the leader of the party in the South east by Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State. The gang also claims to have welcomed over five thousand members in their fold.
Speaking during their meeting at Agbani, a founding vice Chairman of the party in the state, Chief Anike Nwoga blamed Ndi Igbo for voting en masse for former President Goodluck Jonathan as against giving some votes to President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2015 General election, saying that “Igbos put all their eggs in one basket, it fell and the entire eggs broke into pieces” but he failed to give even a single reason why Ndi Igbo should be ashamed of themselves for not voting for someone who has made history by dragging the Nigerian economy into recession twice, who has repeatedly unleashed his military on Igbo youth who are peacefully protesting against a system that treats them as second class citizens, and who under his watch thousands of Benue, Plateau and Kaduna people have been massacred in their sleeps for either not allowing Fulani cattle raid their farmlands or for not allowing Fulani herdsmen take over their villages.
Former speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly, Eugene Odo and former adviser to former Governor Sullivan Chime, Kate Nnamani averred that they decamped from the PDP to the APC because the umbrella protecting the members of their former party is now leaking — because they have lost power at the federal level. None of them made mention of what they have got to offer Enugu people either as individuals or as members of their new party, because it’s clear they have got nothing to offer Enugu people. All they kept doing was beating their chests at being members of a political party that is supremely in charge of the INEC, the army, and the police, and who have got the money to throw around and intimidate the humble people of Enugu State into forgetting who and what their problems really are.
