The Senator representing the federal capital territory, Mr Philip Aduda has promised to support farmers in the territory with free fertilizer to boost the yield of their crops this planting season.
A recent investigation by EZEJA revealed that farmers in the FCT were facing the new planting season with growing despondency as the federal government has failed to supply the subsidized fertilizer it had promised while the product was selling at extortionate prices in the market.
Mr Aduda made the promise while interacting with newsmen in Abuja.
According to the Senator, plans are ongoing to commence the distribution of the fertilizer and other farm inputs across the six local councils of the nation’s capital territory.
“In the next one month I’m going to invite you to an occasion where I will be giving fertilizer to the six area councils, free of charge to key into the diversification agenda of the federal government of Nigeria towards ensuring that agriculture becomes a mainstay of our economy so that we can even begin to export our agricultural products.”
The Senator also advised youth to venture into agriculture to curb youth restiveness which results from unemployment.
Senator Aduda also called on traditional rulers to utilize their influence towards tackling the farmers/herdsmen clashes to guarantee food security in the country.
