Producers of table water have raised alarm over the high rate of poor packaging of the product across the country as a result of poor regulation of the industry by relevant government agencies.
One of the producers, Mrs Clementina Ativie who expressed concern over the incident while speaking with newsmen in Abuja called on regulatory bodies to urgently rise up and check the ugly trend.
According to her, proliferation of unhygienic table water poses great danger to the health of Nigerians, and some producers of the product have thus taken it upon themselves to regulate the industry to avoid catastrophe that might rise from inefficiencies of fake producers.
“We have made a resolve to go after fake producers producing without NAFDAC approval out of lack of proper regulation, and we have also discovered that if we don’t rise up to our responsibility, the issue of cholera and water borne diseases will be pointed at water producers. We have taken the bull by the horn to regulate our members to accept the stipulated standard set by the regulating body.”
Mrs Ativie revealed that the association of table water producers has set up a task force to work with the National Agency for Food, Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and other relevant government agencies to sanitize the nation’s water sector
