Senate says it passed 96 bills in 2 years

The 8th senate has revealed that it has passed a total of 96 bills since its commencement.

Senate president, Bukola Saraki made this known at a special 2nd anniversary celebratory session on Friday.

The senate president gave the assurance that the senate will continue to ensure purposeful legislation that will be of benefit to all Nigerians.

“For us in the 8th senate, it’s not just about the number of bills passed, but more importantly the impact of these bills. This is why we have paid more attention to laws that will give our people the opportunity to prosper and create jobs.”

He said.

The deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu maintained that the senate will remain focused at all times.

“No matter where you come from, and no matter the party you belong, we can only  thank God for this senate that is as focused as it is.”

He said.

The senate leader, Ahmed Lawan on his part rather emphasized how the senate has aided the policies and programmes of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“I believe that we have been quite supportive of this administration in the area of fighting insurgency and terrorism.”

He said.

“We have been supportive of our administration in the area of fighting corruption by passing very important bills that will help the fight against corruption both within this country and overseas.”

He added.

Senator Barnabas Gemade representing Benue north-east also spoke at the 2nd year anniversary celebration.

“I believe that the forthcoming second half of this assembly will give us an opportunity to consolidate on what we have achieved so far and continue to build harmony and unity among us, and also to impact positively on the executive branch of government.”

He said.

According to Senator Gemade, the senate has been a symbol of progress for the nation.
