Softwoods

Planned softwood is timber that has been processed through a machine called a planer, which smooths and levels the surface of the wood. Rough-sawn softwood, on the other hand, is lumber that has not been processed through a planer and still has the rough, sawn texture from the sawmill. It is typically thicker than planned softwood and may have slight variations in thickness and surface texture. Rough-sawn softwood is often used in construction applications where appearance is less important, such as framing, decking, and fencing.

Both planned and rough-sawn softwood have their advantages and disadvantages, and the choice between the two depends on the specific application and desired finished product. While planned softwood is easier to work with and has a more polished appearance, rough-sawn softwood is often more affordable and may be better suited for certain construction projects where a smoother finish is not required.
